Recently engaged, ready to start a family and buy a house in Greater Lansing Michigan? As a first time home buyer, here are 5 suggestions you should be aware of when buying a home in Okemos, Eaton Rapids, Charlotte MI, Williamston, Holt, Grand Rapids or West Michigan.
First, clean the air conditioning unit. If you plan to buy a new unit, or if you currently have an older A/C unit, then you may want to clean it often. You can clean the outside of the unit by spraying it with a water house to remove excess layers and coats of dust. This will also remove extra debris or fall leaves. Taking care of your air conditioning unit may reduce your electrical bill from Consumers Energy.
Second, if you have an older furnace, then you will need to replace the furnace filters every few months. Replacing the filters is important since it can lower your electric bill, prevent fires and better heat your home.
Third, unplug the outdoor water hose hanging from the siding of your house. Before the winter season, it is imperative that you unplug the water house from the socket to prevent freezing. Four, fix any broken screen doors. Repair any storm doors at the front entrance or the back garage door. Doing so can prevent bugs or bats from entering through small cracks or holes in the screens. During the winter seasons in the Midwest, bats like to head toward insulated warm areas such as a home attic or garage, or even under the staircase. It is also a safety hazard as well if you have children and little kids.
Five, fix the chimney and roof if it needs repair. This is important to do right away! Why? It will prevent water leaks and future damage to the home. Also, make sure to close the damper if you do not plan on using the fireplace.
